A little about Mrs. Sylvia...

  • Graduate of Jacksonville University, Bachelor of Science: English major with a writing minor, 2001
  • Four years teaching Honors English II at Providence School

SUMMER READING: see link.

Clarification: For the AP assignments, you must type your Into the Wild essay and ONE dialectical journal; should

you choose, you may type both dialectical journals, but only one typed DJ is required.

For English III: You must read both novels (Into the Wild and Bridge of San Luis Rey), but you will write only one paper--on Into the Wild. You should expect to be tested on both of these novels when you return in August.

Note: I may lose access to my school account over the summer; if you have questions about the summer reading

assignments, please don't hesitate to email me at my personal account: LambchopJU@Hotmail.com.

Helps: Available to students for Help Sessions/Quiz makeup/Consultation on

Fridays and Tuesdays as needed at 7:30 or by appointment; just let me know

you're coming in case of a meeting on my end.

Note: We're going to London and Ireland! The trip is not associated with

Providence School but will be guided by the well-reputed Passports organization

and will be well-chaperoned. Parents are welcome to come abroad with us.

Please email Mrs. Vaughan, the "official" trip organizer at vaughanpc@msn.com or Mrs.

Sylvia at lambchopju@hotmail.com if you have questions about the trip. It's going to be

amazing! See the letter here for more information...

A note about extra credit in CP III:

Extra credit (an extra 100% on a quiz) can be earned (see below) only if you've turned in

all assignments and are not missing any work.

Find four Greek or Latin roots that are commonly used; present these roots to the class,

along with their meanings and at least three other commonly-used words based on those roots.

Each root presentation you make should include FOUR roots and three example words. You can

do up to four of these presentations each quarter to help your quiz average.

Plagiarism: an important note

Be aware that you will be required to submit your written assignments to Turn It In several times this year.  You will be given at least one week’s notice to write any assignment which must also be uploaded into the system; after the deadline as set on Turn It In as submission due date has expired, you will lose 25 points from the paper grade and will have one more week to submit the paper to the system before the assignment is counted as a zero.

You can log in to Turn It In at any time to verify your password or a due date prior to submission. Please also note that Mr. Graham can help load your paper into the system from a disk, which you should label with your name and grade level; however, you must take into account his schedule and plan ahead if you are unable to access Turn It In and expect his help in loading your paper in time to meet the deadline.
