Julie Rabb First Grade Room D126
Mission Statement: Providence School, in partnership with home and church, seeks to prepare each student scholastically, socially, and spritually for the challenges of the 21st century. Proverbs 22:6 tells us to "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." As an educator and a Christian, I believe in training the whole child. God has a purpose for each precious child, and I am humbled to have the opportunity to influence your child spiritually, academically, socially, and physically to help them find that purpose. It is my privilege to be teaching here at Providence School this year. I have an elementary education degree from Jacksonville University and have ten years of teaching experience. I am also certified with the State of Florida (grades K-6th) and ACSI. I am really excited about what the Lord has planned for our class this year!! CLASSROOM RULES: 1. Make a good choice. 2. Treat others the way you want to be treated. 3. Work time is a quiet time. 4. Cooperate with all of our friends. 5. Raise your hand to ask or answer a question. DISCIPLINE PLAN: My goal as a classroom teacher is to keep every student engaged in learning with minimal distractions. I believe, when children know what is expected of them and feel comfortable with a solid routine, much can be accomplished. I aspire to be consistent with my classroom discipline plan. I use the letters A, B, C and D. Each child is represented with a star that has his or her name on it. Students begin each new day on the letter "A." When inappropriate behavior is observed, the student is given a verbal warning. If the behavior continues, the student is then asked to move their star. Subsequent letters follow as a result of misbehavior. Please check your child's planner each night for their citizenship grade.
BOOK REPORTS: Read one book for pleasure each month. Complete the assignment given in the newsletter. Due the last Friday of every month. HOMEWORK: Each week we have a new Bible memory verse and a new list of spelling and sight words. Check the blue folder each Friday for the paper copy of the words and verse (they were also listed in your orientation packet for the first nine weeks). We also are learning our "Math Facts." Each week we will be learning a new addition or subtraction fact family. Once again, check the blue folder each Friday to update you on the math facts for the week. HELPS: For sight words: Make two sets of index cards, each with a sight word written on one side. Play "Go Fish" and "Memory" with the cards each evening. For Spelling Words: Wal-Mart sells "letter" craft beads and pipe cleaners. String the words on the pipe cleaners. You can also use magnetic letters and create the words on the refrigerator. Another help for spelling: have the children type each word on the computer and print it out. Write the words with chalk on the sidewalk. Anything "childlike" will spark their interest and they will not even know they are learning!!
